Tell us how your articles arrive. We will tell you honestly whether a source-verification record can say anything meaningful about them — and if it cannot, we will say so rather than issue a badge that means nothing.

Who this fits

  • You publish material that originates from an establishable source — an official press release, an agency wire, a document whose issuer can be identified at the point of receipt.
  • You can keep the original document, or receive it through a channel we can both point to.
  • You are willing to display a badge that can be revoked, publicly, if the article stops matching its source.

Who this does not fit

  • Original reporting and opinion. There is no source document to match, so the badge would assert nothing.
  • Republished content with no traceable origin.
  • Anyone looking for a seal that implies their reporting is true. This badge does not say that, and we will not let it be presented that way.

Cost

Nothing. Verification runs on articles that arrive through a verifiable channel, and integration is one link per article. We are not selling a certification.

Press releases by email? An agency feed? A CMS import? Describe the path from source to published article.

Before you apply

Does the badge say our reporting is true?
No. It proves where an article came from, that the published text matches that source, and whether any claim in it matches a debunk already published by a fact-checking organisation. Every record states what it does not verify.
Can the badge be taken away?
Yes, and that is the point. A badge is issued per article and revoked if the article is edited away from its source, if the source document is withdrawn, or if a debunk later matches. Revoked records stay online, marked as revoked.
What do we have to change on our site?
One link per article, rendered server-side. No JavaScript and no runtime dependency on FAXTR — if this site is unreachable, your pages are unaffected.
Who is accountable for a record?
FAXTR issues records under its own name. Anyone, including people unconnected to the article, can request a revocation through the corrections channel, and we publish revocation counts per outlet.
